Name of Chapter: Port Thorne, the Tidal Gate

Location: Portland, OR 97205

Founding date: November 2024

Lore: Port Thorne, the Tidal Gate

Port Thorne is a city of raw opportunity and unrelenting danger, perched at the confluence of mighty rivers and surrounded by the untamed Eldermist Wilds. Known as The Tide Gate, it thrives on the lumber and iron harvested from the forests and mines of the region, shipping goods across Emyrion by riverboats and seafaring vessels. Its timberyards and sawmills roar day and night, while the docks hum with the comings and goings of traders, mariners, and opportunists.

The city is ruled by the Council of Rose, a powerful merchant assembly named for the wild roses that flourish throughout the region. These merchants preside over Port Thorne’s chaotic growth, hiring mercenary guards to maintain order and protect their wealth. Yet their influence rarely extends into the shadows, where gangs, smugglers, and pirates operate with near impunity. Port Thorne’s harbor is a haven for black-market goods, particularly blackpowder, and tales of pirate hideouts in the maze of nearby coastal caves are whispered in every tavern. The Saint Jareth Bridge, an imposing structure spanning the city’s lifeblood river, serves as a symbol of trade and ambition—though many who pass beneath it may carry more illicit cargo than they dare admit.

Port Thorne’s vibrant working-class culture is forged in its timberyards, iron mines, and shipyards. Dockworkers, lumberjacks, miners, and shipbuilders frequent the city’s rowdy taverns, where tankards clash and daring tales mingle with the salt air. These hardworking folk pride themselves on their grit and independence, fostering a sense of camaraderie in a city where survival depends on quick wits and strong backs. Life here is harsh, but it is fiercely fought for and deeply celebrated.

Beyond the city’s edges, the wilderness holds its own stories. Nomadic tribes of Beastkin, Firbolgs, and Orcs roam the wilds, their lives deeply entwined with the rhythms of the land. Many natives of Port Thorne also follow The Old Ways, honoring the Great Beasts and the balance of nature. This reverence often stands in stark contrast to the city’s relentless logging and mining operations, sparking tensions between industry and tradition.

For those bold enough to brave its perils, Port Thorne offers untold riches and endless stories. Its markets brim with exotic wares, its harbor teems with ships bound for fortune or ruin, and its streets are alive with opportunity and danger alike. But the wild that surrounds Port Thorne never forgets what it has lost, and neither do the people who still honor its ancient ways
